My father's family is from Transylvania. Years ago my great aunt traveled to the home town there and found people who remembered the family, but I don't have any relatives who live there now. Unfortunately my aunt died several years ago and didn't leave any information about her travels. I'm glad that there is a discussion group like this because I know so little about Romania.

My father and grandmother left Romania during the holocaust and after losing the rest of the family, emigrated to the US.

So I don't have relatives in Europe, but want to get more familiar with Romania, its cultures and customs, and history.

I want to see if people there resemble me...people always think I'm Greek or Italian and I think I look Romanian.

How funny! I get that, too. People think that I'm Greek or Italian. My family left long before WW II, but the ones who stayed were sent to the camps. Only a couple of distant cousins survived and moved to Israel. Ironicly, they got out of the country by claiming to be Italian.

I was born there, but I was raised American. I was raised an English- speaking American from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I'm kind of in an an odd place now, I really don't know if I consider myself Romanian.
