Secret CIA bases and torture's probably not the best thing to be in the news for considering all the more positive things that Romania potentially has to offer.
However, considering history, I don't think it implausible that it probably is the case.

Re: Romania in the news...
Thu, December 15, 2005 - 12:11 PMDo a google news search for Romania CIA and a bunch of up to date stuff will come up... or click here news.google.com/news
Basically there's fairly credible evidence indicating that Poland and Romania were a couple of the places where the CIA was transporting prisoners to either be "interviewed" or as a in-between stop on their way to other places where they could be "interviewed" under more persuasive conditions... -

Re: Romania in the news...
Thu, December 15, 2005 - 8:17 PMRomanian authorities have recently invited international media representatives to inspect what Human Rights Watch claimed to have been 'secret prisons'. Reporters, including NY Times representatives, have had access wherever they requested, and no evidence of prisons/illegal detention of prisoners has been found, as per HRW claims....
See this article in the NY Times (9 December):

Re: Romania in the news...
Fri, December 16, 2005 - 1:11 AMThat would be nice... and I hope that's the case.
I'm just saying, that looking at it in historical perspective, especially with the Romanian Securitate being one of the "best" and most ruthless in the world - at least up to the Iron Curtain going *poof*, I wouldn't be shocked.
Thanks for the link - I'll read the article when I go to the dentist tomorrow. -

Re: Romania in the news...
Fri, December 16, 2005 - 3:58 AMHey, I was not giving you a hard time. But it annoys me that there is a lot of fuss when the news about Romania is bad..... orphans, CIA prisons, avian flu, etc. etc. etc. and never when there is something good to report. Of course, I am biased, being Romanian, but I've noticed that over the last 15 years and it really bugs me. -

Re: Romania in the news...
Fri, December 16, 2005 - 4:24 PMTotally agree with you there - I would love to see some good news coming out of Romania... Please, when there's something good going on throw up a post... I would love to keep up with things.
The only other thing that gets coverage is if there's something related to Dracula... Which gets kind of old.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to keep up with things as much as I would have liked to since we left in 1980... -

Re: Romania in the news...
Fri, December 16, 2005 - 4:00 AMYou are absolutely right, the Securitate was one of the "best" and there are still reminiscences around. But look at what's going on in this country and the sort of cr@p that transpires every now and then..... it's not that much different!! -

Re: Romania in the news...
Sat, September 16, 2006 - 9:25 PMwhat for me is the biggest worrie at the moment is still ROSIA MONTANA Transylvania .. what they try to do there and already did is really heavy and incredible rape of mother nature.. its the most beautyful place of Romania and they want to fuck it all up .. it would even be of great danger for otehr countrys who are connected to the water coming from this mountains.. best for u would be to type it into google.com and u find some infos www.rosiamontana.org and other sites.. also look the www.fanfest.ro a 15000 ppl gathering dedicated to the protest going on .. i doubt the fight is over taugh they say so on the website! -
